Six-week residency in Taiwan, invited by TreeTreeTree Person and Artist Home Swap.

An embedded residency in Xincheng, Hualien, with gallery showings at Taipei Contemporary Arts Center in Taipei and Howl Space in Tainan. The residency was about the ‘natural habitat’ of ‘Taroko National Park’ in Taiwan, formed in 1986 as part of a government programme of dispossession and violent capitalist enfranchisement of Indigenous peoples. Three pieces were developed alongside a deepening understanding of Indigenous/colonial histories, the Indigenous Rights movement, the Han art-scene, and our presence as western bodies asked to speak on a subject so distant to their experience. Here is a statement we wrote during the residency.
